Third Saturday of the month through November 2020: Outlander in the Governor’s Palace

The good folks at Tryon Palace know Outlander fans want to explore the home of Governor Tryon, so they’re hosting Outlander-themed events all year! Participants in the “Outlander in the Governor’s Palace” tours will meet with servants who can offer enlightenment as to Claire’s place within the household and other 18th century news.

The good folks at Tryon Palace know Outlander fans want to explore the home of Governor Tryon, so they’re hosting Outlander-themed events all year! The “Outlander Home and Hearth” tour will allow you to meet the governor’s cook, the local apothecary or surgeon, as well as weavers.
Saturdays through March 28, 2020: Salem Saturdays in Winter
Old Salem (or Salem, as the Frasers called it) allows visitors to explore the history of this Moravian community with workshops, quilting, tours and more.
Feb. 22-23, 2020: Anniversary of the Battle of Moores Creek Bridge
Join the celebration of the 244th anniversary of the Battle of Moores Creek Bridge, the first Patriot victory before the Declaration of Independence, Halifax Accord and war for independence.
March 6, 2020: A Soldier’s Life on the March
New Bern, NC
Tryon Palace will offer a first-person interpretation of a Continental soldier during the Revolutionary War.
March 14-15, 2020: 8th Annual Celtic Festival at Latta Plantation
This two-day festival will feature Celtic musicians and dancers, bagpipers, historic encampments and more!
March 14, 2020: Celtic Festival Outlander After-Party
Latta Plantation’s Celtic Festival will include a special Outlander-themed evening event with live music, dancing and a costume contest.
March 28, 2020: Burgwin-Wright House Birthday Tea & Talk
The historic Burgwin-Wright House & Gardens will host guest speaker Suzanne Adair, who will explore how Patriot women used tea to communicate during the American Revolution.
April 4-5, 2020: The Battle of Hickory Ridge
Located near Fraser’s Ridge territory, the Hickory Ridge Living History Museum will be transformed into a 1781 settlement! This two-day event will feature a battle reenactment.
April 17-19, 2020: Loch Norman Highland Games
Tap into your inner Scot with athletic competitions, music, dancing, food and more at this annual Highland Games hosted by Rural Hill!
April 17-19, 2020: 1770s Backcountry Woman Immersion Weekend
This sounds a fabulous deep dive into the lives of 18th century women. Participants in this particular event will focus on textiles, with workshops on sewing and natural dyes, as well as period cooking. Bonus: This is in historic Bethabara, which is referenced in the Outlander novels.
May 2, 2020: 20th Annual Bethabara Highland Games
Remember Bethabara, the Moravian community not far from Fraser’s Ridge? Historic Bethabara will host a free celebration of the Scots-Irish contribution to the community with music, athletic competitions, sheepdog demonstrations and local craftsmen.
May 16, 2020: Fight for the Backcountry
This reenactment of the Battle of Alamance is a must for those learning about the rebellious backcountry farmers known as the Regulators (who will undoubtedly be prominently featured in season 5 of “Outlander” on Starz)!
June 19, 2020: Regulator Day Commemoration
Organized by a local historian, this is a commemoration and ceremony to honor the six men who were executed on this day in 1771 after the defeat of the Regulators at the Battle of Alamance.
June 20, 2020: A Chat with Theresa Carle-Sanders of Outlander Kitchen
New Bern, NC
Tryon Palace will host Theresa Carle-Sanders, the author of “Outlander Kitchen!” Attendees will tour the palace, listen in on a lecture, mingle during a reception and have their copy of “Outlander Kitchen” signed!
July 9-12, 2020: The 65th Annual Grandfather Mountain Highland Games
Perhaps the most famous Highland Games in America, this is a must for anyone who loves Scottish history or just wants to be a Scot for a day. The Games include the classic competitions and Parade of Tartans, as well as activities for kids, music and more.
Oct. 8-11: Fraser’s Ridge Homecoming
Hosted by Outlander North Carolina, this is a celebration of the history of Jamie and Claire’s North Carolina backcountry. This is a history-focused getaway with workshops, performances, music and more!
Dec. 11-12, 2020: Cupola House Open House
Visit the Cupola House to see this restored 18th century home’s Christmas decorations while enjoying wassail, cookies and music.
